Directions by Mode of Transport
By Car
We are situated directly on the A490.
-
From Oswestry, Welshpool, or the East: Follow the A490 heading toward Llanfyllin. The Workhouse is a large, unmistakable Victorian stone building that will appear on your right-hand side just before you cross the threshold into the town’s 30mph speed zone.
-
From the West / Town Center: If you are leaving the centre of Llanfyllin heading east toward Oswestry, we are located roughly half a mile past the town exit on your left.
-
Parking: Turn directly through the main gates. Free parking is available on-site for cars, minibuses, and coaches, with dedicated accessible spaces positioned closest to the rear entrance pathways.
By Bus
Public transport links run regularly through the week via Tanat Valley Coaches.
- Primary Routes: Route 74 connects Llanfyllin to Shrewsbury, while lines 71 and 76 manage connecting services through Oswestry and Welshpool.
- The Nearest Stop: You can request the driver drop you off on the A490 right near the Workhouse gates. Alternatively, it is a flat, scenic 10-to-15-minute walk from the town square bus stop.
By Rail
The closest rail connections are Welshpool (approx. 14 miles away) and Gobowen (approx. 16 miles away). Visitors traveling by train will need to take an onward connection via a local bus route or book a taxi from the station.
By Bicycle
We love welcoming cyclists exploring the Berwyn Mountains or riding the trails around nearby Lake Vyrnwy. Secure bike racks are available in the courtyard area right outside the cafe.
Accessibility Information
Visitor Note: Because Y Dolydd is a listed early 19th-century industrial site undergoing rolling community restoration, some exterior surfaces consist of older gravel or uneven historic ground. However, the ground-floor History Centre, community galleries, and cafe-bar are fully ramp-accessible for wheelchair users. Accessible toilets are located on the ground level.
